The Ritmos Youth Latin Percussion Program provides unique experiences that are based on a language that knows no boundaries: Music. Students are instructed in the skills and techniques needed to play Latin percussion instruments and also study the cultural history of Latin rhythms.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the Ritmos Youth Latin Percussion Program as a result of the collaboration with the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program.

The Weekly Program Consists Of:

• The cultural history and origins of Latin rhythms

• Basic musical elements, such as the music staff, the names and values of notes, scales and chords

• Introduction to Latin percussion and Latin music genres

• Instrument instruction.

Program Objectives:

• 100% Students will gain music education to include basic music theory

• 100% Students will participate in hands-on instrument instruction

• 100% of students will be able to identify Latin percussion instruments and Latin rhythms

• 100% of students will have a better understanding of the cultural influences of Latin rhythms
